Project Options
Spin Off – Create a demonstration to present in class related to the topic we are studying. The presentation could be video recorded
in advance and the video shown in class. A poster is required – no poster, no credit. (1-3 points)
Web Search – Conduct a web search related to scientific principles studied in class. This could include a biography on a scientist whose work included exploring the properties of motion. Prepare your search according to Mrs. Diehl’s guidelines. A rough draft must be handed in to Mrs. Diehl by September 12 and the final version turned in to Mr. Loucks’ by September 26. (3 points)
Creative Writing - Create a historic fiction, science fiction, or an adventure story related to our unit. A rough draft must be handed in to Mrs. Diehl by September 12 and the final version turned in to Mr. Loucks’ by September 26. Story must be typed to receive credit.
12 point – Ariel font. One inch margins. Double spaced. 1 point per 2 pages (approximately 700 words)
Connection – Physical science is the foundation to earth and life sciences. Whenever you make a connection between what we study this year with what we have studied in other classes (including previous years) you can create a mini-poster (1/2 of a poster board) detailing the connection. The poster must be high quality with pictures and useful captions.
Example: Demonstrate how scientific discoveries affect the course of history. Include specific events studied in social studies and detail how science influenced the event. (1 point)
Create Your Own-If you have an idea for a project that is an extension of our course of study, make a plan for Mr. Loucks and we’ll negotiate from there.
Math Challenge – Ms. Murray has a selection of higher level math problems which focus on scientific applications. Solve one of these problems and prepare a Spin Off style poster to explain the circumstances involved with finding the solution. This includes a standard write-up format. (2 points per challenge).
